Western Grove’s story
Western Grove is rooted in a lifelong connection to the earth, community, and the quiet magic of growing things. Hi, I’m Kayla Westerlund, a mother, a gardener, and an entrepreneur. For more than a decade I’ve worked with land, plants, and people through landscape design and installation, ecological restoration, environmental education, and community-centered design. Along the way, I’ve planted thousands of trees and helped transform outdoor spaces into places that are beautiful, healing, and alive.
My last name, Westerlund, translates to “Western Grove” in Swedish — a name that feels deeply tied to my roots and the path that led me here. It carries memories of gardening and cooking fresh food with my grandmothers, and learning as a child that caring for the earth is also a way of caring for people.
Western Grove grew from those roots. It is both a landscaping business and a reflection of my belief that outdoor spaces can nourish connection, creativity, biodiversity, and wellbeing. I specialize in native and sustainable landscapes that support pollinators, improve soil health, and bring beauty and purpose to everyday spaces. From gardens and patios to fences, ponds, edible landscapes, and ecological plantings, my goal is to create spaces that feel grounded, abundant, and deeply connected to nature.
At its heart, Western Grove is about helping make the world a little more beautiful, resilient, and alive — one landscape at a time.
